Transform your INEOS Grenadier into an outstanding expedition vehicle. Built from the ground up for serious off-road use, it has one of the highest roof load ratings in its class - making it a perfect platform for our hard-shell INEOS Grenadier rooftop tent for overlanding range. This guide covers everything you need to know about roof load capacity, installation options, tent selection, and the EDGE Overland models best suited to the Grenadier.
The INEOS Grenadier is one of the few production vehicles engineered from the outset for heavy roof loads. When equipped with the Rhino-Rack roof rack (INEOS’s official accessory partner), the rated dynamic capacity is 150 kg (while driving) - inclusive of the rack weight itself. This places it comfortably ahead of most SUVs and makes it suitable for all three EDGE Overland hard-shell rooftop tents.

All three EDGE Overland rooftop tents are hard-shell aluminum models with Raptor-style coating, 4000 mm water resistance, and fast one-person setup. Each sits well within the Grenadier’s 150 kg dynamic roof load limit when mounted on a properly rated rack.
The EDGE Overland Explore One is the lowest-profile option in the range at 70 kg and just 18 cm closed height. Its ultra-fast 1–2 minute setup makes it the practical choice for travelers who move camp frequently. At 210 × 135 cm sleeping area with a 7 cm dual-compound mattress - the thickest in the EDGE Overland range - it delivers excellent comfort for two people. The slim closed profile is particularly well suited to the Grenadier, where minimizing the overall vehicle height is a priority for those navigating tight terrain or low-clearance parking.
The EDGE Overland Horizon Mini offers the shortest closed footprint in the range at 150 × 120 cm, making it one of the easiest tents to position on the Grenadier’s roof without interfering with the rear ladder. Despite its compact closed size, it opens to a 230 × 145 cm sleeping area - comfortably accommodating two adults and a child. At 65 kg, it is the lightest model in the range and leaves the most available headroom within the 150 kg dynamic limit for additional accessories or roof-mounted gear.
The EDGE Overland Horizon One provides the largest sleeping area in the EDGE Overland range at 230 × 205 cm, accommodating up to four people. At 90 kg, it remains within the Grenadier’s dynamic roof load rating when used with a properly rated rack. The Horizon One is the right choice for families or groups prioritizing interior space and comfort on longer expeditions. Its integrated 12V and USB charging, dimmable LED lighting, and marine-grade carpeted interior make it a capable base camp for multi-day travel.
Whether the Grenadier’s Safari windows remain accessible after fitting a rooftop tent depends on the rack type and tent placement. With a full-length rack and a larger tent, the windows can typically still be vented but not fully removed. Positioning the tent further rearward, or using a 3/4 rack, can preserve more window functionality. Confirm clearances against your specific rack and tent combination before installation.
Given the Grenadier’s already substantial drag profile, a hard-shell rooftop tent is the more practical choice for most owners. The lower closed height and more aerodynamic lid reduce additional wind resistance, keeping fuel consumption penalties to a minimum. hard-shell tents also offer better protection against trail debris, branches, and harsh weather - all relevant considerations for a vehicle used in serious off-road environments.
Verdict: For INEOS Grenadier owners who use their vehicle regularly for overlanding or off-road travel, a hard-shell rooftop tent is the stronger choice on durability, aerodynamics, and setup speed.

EDGE Overland offers a range of compatible accessories via the rooftop tent accessories section. Relevant options for Grenadier owners include:
Choose the EDGE Overland rooftop tent that best matches your Grenadier setup and travel style:
Does the INEOS Grenadier need a special roof rack for a rooftop tent?
A roof rack or crossbar system is required to mount a rooftop tent to the Grenadier. The vehicle ships with longitudinal roof rails but no crossbars. Crossbars or a full rack platform must be added before installation. Compatible options include the official INEOS Rhino-Rack crossbars and platform, the Front Runner Slimline II, and various other systems designed for the Grenadier’s specific rail and gutter profile.
How does a rooftop tent affect fuel consumption on the Grenadier?
The Grenadier already has a boxy body shape, which means its baseline aerodynamic drag is higher than most modern SUVs. A hard-shell rooftop tent adds relatively little additional resistance due to its low closed profile. With a hard-shell tent, additional fuel consumption is estimated at approximately +0.5–1 L per 100 km. Soft-shell tents, which sit higher and bulkier when closed, tend to produce a greater drag increase of approximately +1–2 L per 100 km. Actual figures will vary with driving speed, rack configuration, and tent model.
Can the Safari windows still be used with a rooftop tent fitted?
This depends on the rack system and tent placement. With a 3/4-length rack or with the tent positioned toward the rear of a full-length rack, the Safari windows can typically still be vented. Full removal of the windows may require repositioning of crossbars depending on the rack design. Confirm specific clearances with your rack supplier before purchase if Safari window access is a priority.
Can bedding be left inside the tent when it is closed?
Yes. EDGE Overland rooftop tents are designed to be closed with bedding left inside, provided items are arranged as flat as possible within the interior cavity. Bulky or oversized items such as very thick winter blankets or large pillows should be managed carefully to ensure the lid closes fully.
