Traction Board Holder for the Explore Rooftop Tents

Traction boards are one of the most useful tools you can carry on an overlanding / offroad trip. They help you get out of sand, snow, mud, and other low-traction conditions. You can also use them as small bridges over rocks and holes. They are a key item for any overlander, off-roader, or adventure camper. The traction board holder keeps them ready and easy to use.

Many overlanders struggle with packing space. Small SUVs and compact 4x4s are great on trails, but storage fills up fast. Traction boards are wide and long. They often take up most of the floor space in the back of your vehicle. Storing them inside your vehicle also brings in dirt, sand, and mud, this means more cleaning and more mess. The traction board holder moves these boards out of the car, it places them on your rooftop tent so they stay out of your cargo space.

This traction board holder was built with simplicity in mind. You can mount or remove your boards quickly - each board attaching with only four screws. When it’s time to use them, undo four screws and the board releases. That’s it. Also, the traction board holder is built for real convenience - you can leave your traction boards mounted even while you have your rooftop tent open.

The holder fits almost all boards with mounting holes. The width adjusts across the full length of your rooftop tent thanks to the T rails. The height also adjusts over a wide range, from 105 mm to 305 mm. This means you can easily fit Maxtrax, Ironman, and many other popular boards. Today’s traction boards come in many sizes, and this holder is built to work with most of them. The holder can even be installed upside down. This is handy when you want the boards positioned closer to the bottom edge of the tent. This gives you more clearance or easier access.

Each kit comes with a range of mounting screws. You can carry up to four traction boards on one holder. If you need fewer boards, that is fine too. Different screw lengths are included so you can set things up the way you want.

Traction boards can be valuable gear, so you want them safe when you leave camp. For extra security, you can add steel loop locks to the bracket. These locks are not part of the kit, but you can buy them easily from any hardware store. They fit through the eyelets fixing the boards to the bracket and thus preventing theft. The traction board holder is made from 100% stainless steel. This material will not rust or fail when wet, salty, or dirty. After fabrication, each bracket gets a matte black powder coat, matching the look of all Explore rooftop tents.
