Not every vehicle is built the same height, and that can make a big difference when setting up camp. Our sidewalls extensions for the Shelter Max Awning solve this problem in a simple way. Made from the same 320 gsm poly-cotton ripstop fabric as the Shelter Max sidewalls, these extensions zip right in between your awning and its walls, giving you extra length when you need it.

The Shelter Max sidewalls have a standard maximum height of 200-210 cm, which works perfectly for most setups. But if you’re driving a lifted 4x4, a van, or even a full-size truck, those walls might not reach the ground. With extensions available in 20 cm, 40 cm, and 60 cm sizes, you can adjust the height to fit your rig. Using the 60 cm option, the awning sidewalls can be installed up to 260-270 cm high and still provide a fully enclosed space

We designed the extensions to be straightforward. They connect with the same zipper system as the sidewalls, so adding them doesn’t feel like an extra chore. Each piece is also numbered with labels, making it easy to identify which extension goes where. Once in place, they zip to each other just like the sidewalls do, keeping your enclosed space sealed against wind, rain, and dust. For taller setups, stability becomes more important. That’s why the 40 cm and 60 cm versions also include pole velcro connectors. These velcro straps attach to the awning poles, helping the walls sit tight and reducing flapping in windy conditions. It’s a small addition that makes the shelter feel solid, even when the weather isn’t.

When it comes to packing, you’ve got options. The extensions come with a carry bag for easy storage, but you don’t have to separate them from the sidewalls if you don’t want to. Many people leave them connected, they just unzip them from the awning when it’s time to go and pack them away together the walls. It’s one less step in camp setup, and it makes the whole system feel like a natural extension of your Shelter Max sidewalls.

These extensions are a small addition that make a big difference in how the Shelter Max adapts to different vehicles. For someone driving a tall car or truck, using the sidewall extensions allows the sidewalls to drop nicely to the ground, creating a usable enclosed room even in rough weather. Wherever your rig takes you, the Shelter Max awning system stays flexible, practical, and reliable!
