Johan Lolos

Johan Lolos

Exploration isn’t just something you do - it’s something you feel. For Johan Lolos, it’s the feeling of freedom on a gravel road in Patagonia, the quiet before sunrise in the Bolivian highlands, the hush of snow falling on remote Alpine peaks. That pursuit of freedom has been at the heart of his work for more than a decade.

Born in Liège, Belgium, to Greek parents, Johan has built a career that speaks to the spirit of adventure. A self-taught photographer with an unshakable curiosity, he has spent the last ten years telling stories through his lens - stories of landscapes, people, wildlife, and the raw, unfiltered beauty of our planet. His distinctive style, a blend of technical mastery and emotional intimacy, has garnered him an audience of over 370k followers and collaborations with some of the world’s leading outdoor brands.

Two years exploring Australia and New Zealand became a turning point, not only shaping his craft but also his philosophy. On the shores of Lake Wanaka, under the New Zealand skies, Johan began capturing images that would catch the world’s eye. From that moment, his camera became his passport - a way to connect, to explore, to feel. Over the years, his path has carried him across six continents and countless landscapes, from the wilderness of Africa to the rainforests of Patagonia, the icy silence of Scandinavia to the bustling streets of Haiti. Along the way, his photography evolved from pure landscape work to a more layered storytelling - weaving together the grandeur of nature with portraits, wildlife, and cultures, to tell richer, more human stories about the world we share. On this path, Johan has become one of the most recognizable voices in outdoor and travel photography - and an inspiration for those who desire to experience the world more deeply.

When he’s not behind the camera, Johan brings the same passion to mentoring others. Through workshops, talks, and his Blue Hour Podcast, he shares his expertise and his philosophy with aspiring photographers and fellow creatives. His book Peaks of Europe sold over 10,000 copies and was recognised by Forbes as one of the best travel books of its year, and his limited-edition prints and exhibitions bring his vision to collectors and galleries alike.

All of this - the dawn starts, the dusty roads, the remote camps - demands a certain kind of resilience, both from the photographer and from the tools he depends on. Johan’s Toyota Hilux, kitted out with EDGE Overland gear, has become an extension of his creative process. On the road, his vehicle is his basecamp, his refuge, and sometimes even his studio - and it has to perform flawlessly.

After a long day chasing light in the wild, he needs a setup that’s quick and reliable - so he can focus on what he does best: capturing the story. That’s where the Horizon Mini rooftop tent comes in. Compact and elegant, this hardshell rooftop tent transforms his Hilux into a home in minutes, offering the comfort and protection he needs to recharge. Whether he’s parked on a windy Patagonian plateau or tucked into a quiet Alpine valley, he knows his tent won’t let him down - it’s just one less thing to worry about when every second of daylight counts.

But life outdoors isn’t always kind - the sun, the wind, and the rain all play their part - but Johan has found ways to embrace it. With the Infinity 270 awning deployed, he carves out a generous, freestanding space where he can cook, review shots, or just sip his morning coffee while the world wakes up around him. That space becomes his open-air office, his dining room, his shelter - a reminder that even in the wildest places, a little shade and a little order make all the difference. Coupled with his Quick Cover shower awning, after days of hiking, shooting, and driving, the ability to wash up and feel human again is priceless - even in the middle of nowhere. For someone who believes that the smallest rituals can make even the most remote camp feel like home, it’s a quiet luxury he’s unwilling to give up.

These elements of his setup aren’t just gear - they’re part of the story. Just as his camera and his eye define his images, the confidence he has in his vehicle and equipment allows him to work without hesitation, knowing that at the end of every trail, there’s a comfortable place to rest and reset. This balance between simplicity and functionality, between exploration and comfort, mirrors Johan’s own aesthetic. His photography draws you in with sweeping landscapes, then holds you there with quiet moments of connection - with a herdsman in Bolivia, a café owner in Sicily, a whale surfacing in icy waters. Over time, his work has become less about the destination and more about what happens when you truly inhabit a place - when you slow down enough to see beyond the obvious.

It’s this mix of curiosity, respect for the craft, and thoughtful preparation that makes Johan such a natural fit for our brand. Like us, he believes that adventure is worth doing right - with the right tools, the right mindset, and a deep appreciation for the journey. Wherever his path leads, we’re proud that EDGE Overland is part of his story
